My husband Derek and I are caretakers of our 10yrs old
Grandson Nicholas. Nicholas came to us 5 years ago, from an abusive
home, abuse inflicted mostly by his Mother, both physical and mental
abuse. Father developed a drinking habit, was hard for him to handle
things, and when told of the abuse to his son he went into denial, was
not a person you could talk to about the situation.
Nicholas and his parents lived with my oldest daughter
and her husband in Colorado, so they witnessed the abuse more than my
husband and myself.....although my in-laws, husband and myself did
witness one incident that left both of my Mother-in-law and
Father-in-law in shock and they could not stop thinking about it and
would always ask when they called how Nicholas was doing. The incident
was, as we had walked into my daughters home, as we were all going out
on a trip, to pick my daughter, husband and children up, Nicholas's
Mother was sitting at the table eating and Nicholas was standing next
to her with no food or anything to eat, when I asked why Nicholas was
not eating, she said " Nicholas had done something wrong earlier, so
now he was being punished by having to watch her eat and he was not
getting to eat anything"...WOW how can a mother do something like that?
